Last night the Mercury Music Prize winners were Franz Ferdinand, which is probably a good choice. This seems to be a pertinent time to reveal, as promised, my own final choice for album of the last year. Clearly they should all be winners, but my gut instinct of Com Lag by Radiohead came out. All I need now is for Thom Yorke to ring and claim his small mounted block of etched glass...

"Oh, and Radiohead sucks...(Only a euro contest would pick a band called Franz Ferdinand as winners, can't wait to hear them)!" Anon.

Franz Ferdinand is an extremely satisfying name, and seems highly appropriate for thier spiky agigtated sound. I know Martin don't appreciate them all that much, but at least he'll back me up on Radiohead. So there.

What are you doing, man? You're replying anonymously to your own posts and then slating your own comment?

I'm not mad keen on Franz Ferdinand, particularly when something as good as Amy Winehouse's album was in there (and that Belle and Sebastian album is pretty great).

Love Radiohead, yes, but I can't possibly agree that Com Lag is the best album in a year that's produced something of the quality of Rejoicing In The Hands. Leaving aside the fact it isn't an album...

Anonymous left a comment elsewhere and I then cut & paste it to the subject in hand. I stand by my descision, it's possibley thier most satisfyingly coherent peice to date. With some really funny artwork where bluebirds fly...

I'm all for post-modernism, but you're just WRONG. And it's an EP!

I will drag in reinforcements if necessary. Devendra demands a recount!

EP, LP, whatever, it's a bunch of songs strung together on a piece of plastic. This could be interesting, I wait for your next move now, can I placate you by giving a joint first place, shared with the creator of "Rejoicing in the hands..."?

Well in that case I have no choice but to defuse your attack by breaking the engraved glass prize into pieces and give a bit to each one of the nominees. Hopefully Andre 3000 won't cut himself on the sharp edges of his splinter that'll be on the way in the post...
